Jochen Sautermeister studied Catholic theology (Bachelor, Master), psychology (Bachelor) and philosophy (Master) in Tübingen/Germany, and Jerusalem/Israel from 1995 to 2004. Prof. Sautermeister got his Doctorate (Dr, rer. soc.) in Tübingen in 2006 and Dr. theol. in Munich 2013.
From 2004 to 2014, Prof. Sautermeister was a research assistant at the Chair of Moral Theology at the LMU Munich; from 2014 to 2017 he was the holder of the endowed professorship for moral theology with special emphasis on moral psychology. Since 2015 he was a Professor of Moral Theology at the Faculty of Catholic Theology at the University of Bonn. He was the Dean of the Faculty of Catholic Theology in Bonn from 2019 to 2023.
Prof. Sautermeister lead third-party funded research projects in medical ethics, moral psychology, relational ethics, research ethics and spirituality.
From 2008-2015 he also worked as a psychological marriage, family and life counsellor. Further training in person-centered counselling (2002-2004) and as a psychological marriage, family and life counsellor (2004-2008). Since 2012, Prof. Sautermeister is also active in pastoral psychology training.
He is currently also a visiting professor at the LSRS.
